I left #ClimateWeek2024 feeling energized and optimistic, and before that week becomes a distant memory, I wanted to share some reflections on the unique role Meridian Institute played at events connected to the Summit for the Future and New York Climate Week.Over the course of 11 days, over 20 members of the Meridian team organized, convened, and presented at high-level meetings and small gatherings, formal and informal alike.Across events, Meridian was the connective tissue between diverse groups of stakeholders and topics. We helped participants go deep on a variety of issues while maintaining a systems-level focus. In doing so, we fostered collaboration between individuals and institutions that are often aligned in principle yet disconnected in practice. During my busiest days, I moved between small, off-the-record meetings and high-level public events, including the event I MC’d on behalf of a Meridian-supported project, Accelerator for Systemic Risk Assessment (ASRA), which was attended by over 100 people.Soon after, I was in a much smaller room with other systems-thinkers to “re-imagine economics” under the guidance of Jonathan F.P. Rose who is a well-known affordable housing developer and co-founder of the The Garrison Institute. Each of us had a different approach, but collectively we shared a common goal (a recurring theme in many rooms at Climate Week!).Back to another large meeting the next day, I spent the morning with 30 private foundation leaders who are working to accelerate regenerative agriculture and agroecological approaches around the world. That same afternoon, Meridian supported a meeting with more than 20 funders working on sustainable livestock and consumption. Over the course of the week, our team also facilitated convenings on blue foods, AI, digital sequencing information (leading up to CBD COP this month), forests, and natural climate solutions, with funders in attendance from the forests, fisheries, and agricultural spaces. As always, Climate Week was a whirlwind of activity that left me feeling invigorated and hopeful. Day after day, I attended events and meetings that touched each of Meridian’s diverse focus areas, and I was reminded just how powerful of a connector Meridian is and will continue to be as we mitigate climate risks and drive sustainable growth. If you're curious, youcan read much more about our week (with lots of wonderful images!) here:https://lnkd.in/gBaJyA_A And I want to hear from you! As we plan for #COP29, I'm curious to hear what caught your attention at Climate Week? What conversations do you hope to continue in November?#ClimateWeekNYC #ClimateSolutions #ClimateAtion #ClimatePolicy #Sustainability #SocialImpact

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Meridian Institute partner Global Alliance for the Future of Food at a dinner they hosted at the iconic James Beard House in #NYC as part of #ClimateWeekNYC.Chef Grace Ramirez designed a menu with a focus on blue foods. The menu reflected the Global Alliance for the Future of Food’s mission to foster and support food systems that are renewable, resilient, equitable, healthy, diverse, inclusive, and interconnected.Everything was delicious. Among the amazing dishes was the Sea-Veggie Burger from Atlantic Sea Farms. Atlantic Sea Farms is a woman-run, mission-driven seaweed farming company that works alongside fishing families to cultivate regenerative kelp.Learn more about our work with the Global Alliance for the Future of Food here: https://lnkd.in/gYkdgVDs@The James Beard Foundation #ClimateWeek2024 #Agriculture #FoodSystems #Biodiversity #Sustainability #SustainableFood #bluefoods #aquaculture #farmtotable

I can’t believe it’s already been more than two weeks since the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth’s (CSP) inaugural training program for wealth owners. The “Investing for Systems Change” event brought together 20 investors from around the world for three days of learning, connecting, and problem solving.Thank you to theteam at Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth for leading the charge and for includingMeridian Institute as part of the instructional team, which also featured TransCap Initiative,TWIST: Investing for Systems Change, The ImPact, and MIT Sloan School of Management.Given our 25-year history supporting systems change processes and a growing interest in Systemic Investing, we recently rolled out our Systems-Based Investing Field Lab series. These three-day, place-based, issue-based experiences apply systemic investing theory to real-world systems challenges. The Field Labs take private wealth owners, philanthropists, and systemic investing thought leaders to meet and learn from the individuals and institutions working on the ground to drive systems change.Ourinaugural Field Lab,which took place in May at @Duke Farms, focused on systemic investing approaches that can accelerate regenerative agricultural practices in peri-urban settings:https://lnkd.in/gmQsDFqPWe have two more Field Labs on the horizon, with others in the works, including Labs in Mexico and East Africa, which will have a food systems focus. 🌽October 2024: Minneapolis, MN, USA – Diversification of Row Crop Systems in the US Midwest🌊April 2025: Maine, USA – Aquaculture, Coastal Change, Blue EconomyIf you’d like to join us at a future Field Lab, please complete this form: https://bit.ly/3V9bS5GFalko Paetzold Erin Duddy Seth Fleisher Vicki Maler Ann Tan Rory Tews Jason Jay Dominic Hofstetter Samuel Bonsey Hanson Gong Alban Yau Britta Gruenig, Professional Certified Coach Nancy R.
