The 50 best family restaurants in Myrtle Beach (2024)

This southern restaurant, Paula Deen's Family Kitchen, is a cozy and family-friendly spot that serves up hearty meals with classic Southern fare. The large portions are delivered to tables as passing dishes, including fried chicken, smothered steak and mashed potatoes. If you're looking for a show while you eat, this place is definitely worth checking out!

Great experience! Nice waterfront location. Dinner only, no breakfast, no lunch. The portions are huge and there are NO to-go boxes. The food just keeps coming as long as you want more.. Only dessert can be boxed and taken home. Additional: No call-in orders, no outside seating, no delivery.

The rating should be 5 stars. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, and everything came out fast. Unfortunately you can not get take out or take home any extra food. The amount of food that is wasted in this place is unreal. We had a party of 9 and had enough food left for three more meals but it goes right in the trash. I even offered to pay extra to take it home but they won't let you. I understand why they do it, since it's family style. I also wanted to take some home for my family members that couldn't make it, but there is no take out. I really enjoyed the food but will not go back.

One of the best family style restaurants I have been to! We were visiting Myrtle Beach on vacation and came across this restaurant while walking on Broadway. Our waitress Kelsey was so sweet and attentive. It is a pricier option, but definitely worth the price. If you are eating, then they will keep bringing more. We did the Georgia option that came with 4 entrees and 4 sides. Dessert is also included for each person. The catfish and sweet potatoes would be my top two picks and I would recommend the banana pudding for dessert with the chocolate butter cake in very close second choice.

My first time at the Family Kitchen. I will start with our dislike. The menu is family style which is cool; however any food you don't eat you can't take it to go. That is such a waste! We did however enjoy the catfish, collard green were seasoned just right, green beans were tasty, mac and cheese so so (a little dry), okra was yummy, the candied yams we didn't like and sent it back. Overall, decent experience and view at night is lovely!

Sondra B — Google review

The food is served family style with choices of main dishes & sides. The pot roast is better than Mom's! The fried catfish was the star of our meal.

Mitch P — Google review

Family style food! So I came here with my family after visiting the Aquarium (which I would highly recommend visiting, especially if you have kids, after 3pm!) and the food was pretty good. We ordered 3 main dishes, the beef, fried catfish, and fried chicken. It came with a selection of 4 sides, and we ordered mac & cheese, fried okra, salad and green beans. While we waited, they gave us these biscuits which were ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! The main dishes were all very good, the fried chicken was my favorite, but the fried fish was also really good. The sides were ok, the kids liked the mac & cheese. Overall, had a good experience and would come back!

Really enjoyed the family style dinner buffet 😋. Food was fresh and Hot. Great service from our server and the store had lots to choose from for your kitchen. Only 2 complaints but still deserves 5 stars cause it's just me but #1 turn the ac vents toward the dining room. It was blowing down on my table making my food cold to eat. #2 and it's just what I do is on the fried chicken I would inject the breast with a marinde like you do deep fried turkey. Breast was a bit dry but over all the dinner was great. Will return.

First time visiting Paula's Dean restaurant. I enjoyed the food, one thing that I look for in a restaurant is that the food tastes like food not salt or excessive sugar or butter. This food was deliciously perfect to me. Great, great service, all of the employees are very nice, courteous and always checking on your table in case you need something, love it. The atmosphere is very nicely decorated, clean and full of interesting items like candles, sauces, utensils etc..I definitely recommend this place. My experience was great

Magdoli M — Google review

The meal was great. We consumed way to much food. Need to go on a diet after this vacation. The service was good. We had the fried chicken and spare ribs. Our sides were Yams, Okra, Collared greens and cheese grits. We only got a second helping of the Okra - we were too full to get anything else.

William A — Google review

The food was no too good. It lacked flavor. Even the mashed potato wasn’t good. How can you mess that up? The only thing decent was the deep fried chicken. We had shrimp and dumplings and ribs. Shrimp was dry just like the ribs. I did not even finish the ribs and just left them on the table which I would not normally do. Besides the food being bad the rest is super nice the building and decor is very nice. The service was very attentive and friendly. Views are spectacular and the price was very reasonable.

Kamil S — Google review

Good price overall for a family style- all you can eat meal! The building is beautiful, bright and spacious. Family recommends sweet potatoes (yams), creamed corn, fried chicken and ribs. Our only difficulty was accommodating 2/6 people that were vegetarian. Very limited choices as the potatoes and grits both had meat in them.

JulieT — Google review

The southern fried chicken was amazing. The chicken and dumplings were good, but not enough dumplings. The candied yams were absolutely amazing. What a fantastic place to eat! Our waitress was so kind and served us very well. The price was not bad considering the amount of food you get. Too bad you can't get two servings and then you could take some home. But people would abuse it. So overall the food and experience was amazing.

Tim T — Google review

When we first arrived here, we knew it was gonna be good. The building is a 2-story restaurant with a shop on the first floor and a restaurant being on the second. When we entered the building we were greeted in kindly, the lady told us where to go without any confusion. When we got to the top of the escalator, we were sat immediately. Once we were seated, a very kind waitress served us, and she did with a positive attitude that seemed like she cared about her work, which made the experience already positive. The food here is very delicious although ordering the food works in a odd manner. To order here you must order for the entire table 2 meals and 4 sides. However, they are bottomless, so you can eat as much of the meal as you want. We ordered the pot roast and spare ribs for the main portion. The sides were mac and cheese, potatoes, green beans, and cream of corn. Finally, the atmosphere at this place was fantastic. Clean tables, quiet restaurant, great view of the jet boats next door on a lake. Very good restaurant would definitely revisit, and it's all at a good price.

Our first time here in south Carolina. It was an amazing experience, I was there with my wife and 2 daughters. We were all stuffed when we were done. We got 4 main dishes, 4 sides and a dessert each. They kept bringing mains and sides until we stopped. We got ribs, beef pot roast w/ rice, chicken and dumplings and pork chops. Mac and cheese, green beans, mashed potatoes and candied yams. Finished with apple cobbler. Food was delicious and very filling. We will def be back. 😁👍🏼👍🏼

I liked the overall experience. You can choose from 3 family style options: The Albany, which is 2 entrees, and 4 sides, The Savannah, which is 3 entrees and 4 sides, and The Georgia 4 entrees and 4 sides. It was just my husband and I and chose The Albany. The biscuits down right delicious. Be careful, you have to save room for your meal. Keep in mind, you can get as many refills of the food you eat but CAN NOT take any home, except for the dessert. All that we ordered was great except for the creamed potatoes. They were a little too runny for me. The oogy gooey cake excellent. The atmosphere, the food, and the service were worth the price. I would definitely go again.

Food was good and homey. All meals served family style which was fun. Too much food. You will feel like you had Thanksgiving dinner! Restaurant very clean. Staff attentive and very friendly. Get there early. If there's a long wait you can walk around the complex and they will text you when your table is ready

Having eaten and enjoyed the Paula Deens Family Kitchen in Pigeon Forge Tennessee, I had to try this one in Myrtle Beach.And... it was just as good. Being in a very interesting area, this location has a lot of parking. There are plenty of handicap spots also, so no issues for anyone. Walking inside you enter the large gift shop with something for everyone! Take the escalator up to second floor, or the elevator if you have a disability. When up top they immediately seat you and take your drink order. They have your typical drink options, including some adult beverages. This restaurant is a family style, meaning you get to pick your entree and sides. They bring endless refills (food and drinks, except those adult beverages) you cannot take any leftovers home. You can however take your dessert home (so eat up!)Our food options for 8 people were fantastic. Fried Chicken, Pork Chops, Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes, Chicken and Dumplings, Green Beans and Creamed Corn. Everything was very good, the collards were a bit salty to me. Everyone in our party agreed that this food is wonderful. If in Myrtle Beach, give it a try. I doubt you will be disappointed.Staff: 5 starsFood: 5 starsTimeliness: 4 starsCleanliness: 5 stars

Paula's was a great experience. This was my first time ever eating here. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. I dined upstairs and the view over the water was amazing. The waitress was nice and explained the menu along with suggestions. We ordered the catfish, pot roast and fried chicken w mashed red skin potatoes, yams, collards, and Mac and cheese. I really enjoyed the catfish and pot roast. The mac and cheese was really good and the yams. I didn't like the collard greens that much. Overall, everything was good I just thought the food could have been hotter when it came out. Good for $30/person for all that food. It is a lot of carbs so you can only eat so much. Even though it is family style eating you will be full of the huge biscuits, potatoes and rice. Nice store to shop in at the lower level after you are super full. Nice lounge chairs to sit in if you need a rest and look at the waterfront. Good experience A+

Tabatha E — Google review

Food is very bland mac and cheese has little cheese. Fried chicken had no seasoning pork chops had a little more flavor. The roast was good rice was still hard . I think it’s kind of over priced for the food offered. We eat out often and are locals we will not be returning but it was an expensive meal for buffet style food. The dessert was uncooked raw with egg shells (see photo). The waitress was very kind and checked often to see if she could get us anything. Nice calm environment

First time at Paula Deen's restaurant and it was delicious! Awesome customer service and the food was top notch. Chicken and dumplings, chicken fried pork chops, green beans, cream corn, cream potatoes, bake Mac and cheese was crazy good! Paid $24.99 per person but it was bottom less amount. Ask for more when you run out at no additional charge. No to go plates available but you will leave with a full stomach. Will definitely eat here again! Check out gift shop afterwards!

I like the concept, it would be good for a medium-sized party. There were three of us and we ordered two entrees and then we get the four sides. I like that it's unlimited. The food was good but I wouldn't say it was any better than golden corral. So for $30 a person not bad but I probably wouldn't do it again. There was absolutely nothing special about any of the entrees or the sides that would make me specifically want to come back there. The food was hot and the server was nice although I never got a refill on my soda.

AMAZING FOOD! This place is a MUST EAT when you are visiting Pigeon Forge! This was our first time eating here & it will NOT be our last! Food & service were amazing! The food is served family style, which is great! Our favorites were the pork chops, chicken & dumplings and the yams!!! AMAZING!!

Our server Keith was so friendly and took great care of us! If you're looking for southern comfort food, this is the place to go. Every time we eat here the food is quality and delicious! There is a cute little shop below the restaurant as well!

Michelle T — Google review

The cheese biscuit appetizer was very good but try not to eat too much because you'll want to leave room for the actual meal. We ordered the fried chicken, shrimp and grits, beef pot roast, and chicken & dumplings. All of them were cooked well. The shrimp and grits was perhaps a bit too rich and buttery but still delicious. Sides were pretty standard: corn on the cob, green beans, coleslaw, and buttered rice.Dessert was banana pudding which was great, peach cobbler, and ooey gooey butter cake. The peach cobbler's dough was a bit tough. Could be a bit better. Filling tasted like canned. The oooey gooey butter cake was not to my liking. It was like you took a cake recipe and reduced the flour by a lot. The result was like a flat, crispy, very sweet, and greasy brownie. All of the food was unlimited. You can ask for more of everything, including the desserts. All in all I liked the food. The entrees are definitely the star here.

Monina C — Google review

Straight to the point will we go back?Probably not. There was no wait we walked in and got a seat which was nice. There weren't many people there eating and maybe that should have been our hint to go and walk back out to find somewhere else to eat. It was a bit pricey for us with our kids they don't eat much. We got the ribs, chicken, and catfish with Mac and cheese, grits, mashed potatoes and cream corn. The ribs had a lot of fat and cartilage, the fish wasn't that great no one at our table cared for it we are more of a cod family. The chicken was good. The Mac and cheese had a weird texture like it was mixed with grits it wasn't a smooth sauce on the noodles. The grits were great. The mashed potatoes were average compared to instant red mashed potatoes. And the cream corn was okay. The best part id say was the bread and dessert which we got the cake and banana pudding.

Melissa L — Google review

Our servers Alicia and Chris were amazing! I would return and recommend just because of them. The restaurant was very welcoming and had a beautiful ambiance. I loved the retail shop downstairs as well. Our family of 5 spent well over $150.Meals are served family style and have unlimited refills. So that is pretty cool. The food is pretty good, but very very rich! Loaded with lots of butter, salt, and sugar! I enjoyed the Fried Chicken, green beans, fried okra, and sweet potatoes. The greens were way too salty and we could not eat them. The mashed potatoes were pretty plain and the Mac and cheese tastes like stouffers. I felt like the sweet potatoes could have had a little less butter/oil and sugar. The complimentary biscuits are delicious! The desserts are actually pretty horrible and you don’t get much! I do wish you got a clean plate with eat refill of your meal like a buffet though. Overall, we had a great time and it was decent meal. This place is a little pricey, but it is to experience fun while visiting the area.

We were excited to try Paula Deen’s cooking at her restaurant. The wait on a Wed for a party of 6 was about an hour long - we arrived at 6:10 and were told 25-30 min wait, but didn’t get seated until 7:15. Once seated, the service was on point - Anna was thorough in explaining how the family style dining works, find out which dishes would work for a party member with gluten, dairy and seafood allergy (Country Fried Steak without Gravy and Poppy Seed Salad) and take our drink orders. The food came out very quickly and she checked on us regularly to make sure none of the dishes or drinks needed a refill/restock and whether we were ready for dessert. For dinner we ordered chicken and dumplings, southern fried chicken, and country fried steak with gravy on the side, as well as Mac n cheese, creamed potatoes, collard greens and poppyseed dressing salad. Chicken and dumplings and collard greens were extra salty and the collard greens got saltier as we got toward the bottom of the bowl. The rest of the items were good, though nothing earth shatteringly delicious that would make us rave about the food. From a drink perspective, all of the adult beverages we got were on point - the mules, bourbon smash, and margaritas. The garlic cheddar biscuits served before dinner live up to their name with the garlic and were certainly dripping with fat from the cheese and butter. Lastly, desserts can be eaten in the restaurant and taken to go. They are small portions but after a huge meal, it is fitting. That said, butter cake felt like it was more butter than cake, the banana pudding was good, and the peach cobbler had a rather mushy dough instead of what I was imagining would be a biscuit dough. For folks who are not sure how the family style dining works, there is a set price per person based on whether you pick an option with 2, 3 or 4 entrees (plus sides) and the restaurant will replenish those dishes for your party until everyone is full. That said, they do not provide to go boxes, so my personal advice is to not ask for more refills than needed to avoid food waste :)Parking is available behind the restaurant, which is located on the Broadway on the Boardwalk which felt like a heavy shopping/dining/entertainment area for tourists.Overall, while it was good to try it once as an experience, we are not likely to come back. While none of the dishes were terrible (outside of some being extremely salty), none of the dishes were amazing. Furthermore, the dining space felt like any regular dining space and I could not see/feel any uniqueness or special decorations to suggest we were enjoying meals from the kitchen of one of the top southern cooking chefs.

Binderya E — Google review

Biscuits and candied yams were excellent. Everything else was just okay. Overpriced. Pot roast had no flavor! Fried chicken included no chicken breasts. Poor service and it takes quite awhile to get a refill on food. You can take dessert to go but don't bother- they give you only an exact spoonful. One & done type of place.

Jlee D — Google review

I had high hopes for this restaurant. The pot roast, cream corn, and butter cake were wonderful. The blueberry lemonade, ribs, and okra were not bad. The baked macaroni and greens were unfortunate. If it were anywhere else, I would lower my food standards. The service was prompt and polite. We were surprised they did not have vinegar. The gift shop is nice. The atmosphere is awesome. We really enjoyed the music. It's worth a visit if you have the time.

I am from Texas and this is like a babes chicken but even better! The restaurant itself has a fancy look and the chicken fried steak is the best I have ever had! Try the butter cake for dessert! This was one of the best desserts I have ever had. All you can eat chicken fried steak and chicken!!!! Yummy! I saw several other dishes that looked worth trying next time!. Good bang for your buck! Will be back! Maybe tomorrow lol

My first time eating here at Paula Dean restaurant in Myrtle Beach SC. I didn't realize that the style of food presentation was like sitting at the family dinner table. Meaning, you have the meat selection, sides for your guests at the table. If you want more than one meat option it's a different tier on the menu... If you like meatloaf and someone wants chicken you can do both and select additional sides for a total of 4. Then, you share everything like sitting at the family table. *It's not the typical choice of a dinner plate with each guest having a separate meal. Anyway, it was pretty good. My favorite was the meatloaf with the tomato sauce (more like ketchup but better) each selection includes a desert too. Additionally, you CANNOT take anything home. As in a doggie bag. THAT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING 😟. You can order seconds of any item. Just not taking it home. That seems wasteful. Especially, since we're traveling and the leftover chicken would have been great back in our hotel. A thigh and a wing. Maybe they will change the rules on that... Paula Dean 🤔

Definitely a unique experience. Like a buffet almost that they bring to the table. Loved the food so much. It was a small menu, but just because everything is so good there doesn’t need to be a whole lot! They just keep bringing it to your table till your full. This is easily a great place to bring the family. The restaurant is on the second floor. Like a Cracker Barrel, they have a store selling Paula Deen merchandise on the ground floor. Whether or not you got a Paula Deen fan you wanna bring here, this place will surely leave you full like it’s thanksgiving dinner and you’ll be eating like you’re right at home. Loved it. I would 100% come back here again.

Dining at Paula Deen's Family Kitchen in Myrtle Beach was a delightful experience that we won't soon forget. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm Southern hospitality. The decor was charming and inviting, setting the perfect atmosphere for a memorable meal. The menu was filled with classic Southern dishes, each prepared to perfection. We indulged in BBQ ribs, fried chicken, pot roast, sweet potatoes, green beans, mac and cheese, and creamy potatoes. Each dish was incredibly flavorful and satisfying, tasting just like a meal from Grandma's kitchen. The portions were generous, and every bite was a treat. The cheesy bread were out of this world, perfectly fluffy and delicious, complementing our meal wonderfully. The service was outstanding, with attentive staff who made sure we had everything we needed and more. Their recommendations were spot-on, enhancing our dining experience even further. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the dessert selection. The gooey butter cake and banana pudding were simply divine, leaving us with sweet memories of our visit.Paula Deen's Family Kitchen exceeded our expectations in every way. Whether you're a local or just visiting Myrtle Beach, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Southern cuisine in a warm and welcoming setting. We can't wait to return!

Please tell me how you're able to make ribs, fried catfish, and multiple other items within 10 minutes of ordering? The food was luke warm, the mac and cheese was disgusting, and the cost for the meal was NOT worth it. I've made the lady's Mac and cheese, and it's delicious, but what was served here was more like from a cafeteria. I also find it amusing all the ways this establishment has managed to ensure no one can take any left overs with them. All in all, it's not worth going. It's a prettier version of cracker barrel, but cracker barrel has the better food when compared to this place. The only plus was our waiter. He was sweet and did everything he could to be accommodating.

The facility is beautiful, the first floor is a gift shop and the restaurant is above. The staff is really friendly and helpful. I was seated quickly. All the tables have a view out the large windows. The ordering is family style, with bowls of items brought to the table to share. Being by myself, I ordered the smallest combination of 2 meats and 4 sides. It came with bread and dessert too. Since I normally live a keto lifestyle, it was carb overload, but I did enjoy it. If, by chance, you were still hungry, they would refill any of the bowls. Service was quick.

We were excited to eat here! Lunch is served family style and has refills too. The place is bright and beautifully done with friendly attentive waitstaff. We were seated near the windows and enjoyed the view of the boardwalk. We ate till we were stuffed then yes...we asked for dessert. Paula we loved your place. Only one thing could have made it better...you being at the door to greet us! There is also a wonderful shop on the first floor with tons of kitchen and home items for sale. I wish we had a Paula Dean Kitchen in Michigan!!

This is my favorite place to eat. The food is consistently good and the staff are always welcoming. The family style service is a wonderful change. You select the number of entrees you desire for your table (which determines the price) then you select your entrees and 4 sides which are brought out for the whole table and are bottomless. Just don’t anticipate being able to take anything home except your dessert. Bonus: The store downstairs is great to browse while waiting for your table or after eating.

Shannon W — Google review

It's okay. I don't really like the concept here. You pick your protein and depending on how many you choose you pick your side dishes. We chose 3 proteins at 27.99 a person and 4 sides. You get all you can eat of the dishes you choose. The food wasn't great so we didn't get and refills. We had our 11 y/o with us who barely ate and it's still 27.99 for her.To put it simply, I will never go back.

Sally R — Google review

The place was very organized, and the staff made us feel welcomed.Big thing for me to see how they clean the tables, even the chairs, and sweep under the table. It shows how clean the place is.Our choice of 4 items all you can eat was 10 out of 10.Our server name is Tracy, and she's one of the original servers here. She was great and always get your drink refill before you even ask. Come see her.You should visit this restaurant if you're in Myrtle Beach.

Arrived about 1pm on the Saturday before Christmas. I would think there should have been more people there. The place is beautiful...a store on the first floor with the restaurant on the second floor overlooking the Broadway at the Beach Village & lake. Beautiful! The food, however, was something to be desired. NOT! I appreciate the family style meals, but the quality was definitely lacking. There were only 2 of us, and we ordered the choice of 2 entrees and 4 sides. We had fried chicken, meatloaf, creamy potatoes, mac & cheese, poppy seed salad, and green beans. The biscuit and salad were very good, Only 2 problems, the mac & cheese was dry, and looked like the end of the pan. It was fairly good but barely edible. The fried chicken was also dry. The wings were edible, but the breast was so dry & overdone I had to send it back. The waitress explained they were done in batches...so not freshly cooked like you would expect. It was cooked way too long ago. Not even hot, but warm. Give me a break! At $26.00 a person, this was a huge disappointment! I've been waiting years to eat in one of her restaurants, and she would be horrified to see how this place RUINED it for us! I'm sure she wouldn't have allowed such garbage out of the kitchen.

The food was delicious. Items were either very sweet or salty which I'm sure was as expected by most but we've cut back so much that it's very noticeable. All still delicious though. The fried chicken was awesome!!! The server was perfect! Shoutout to Kelsey M foe great service!!. The food menu is family style so be prepared for a lot of food!.

Wow, what an incredible experience at Paula Deen's Kitchen! From the moment we walked in, we were treated to a delightful atmosphere and exceptional service. We started with the strawberry lemonade and chilled beer, which was absolutely refreshing and set the tone for our meal. Our family-style lunch for two was more than generous, with crispy chicken, garlic cheddar biscuits, and a variety of sides that did not disappoint. The fried okra, creamy corn, grits, coleslaw, and mac n cheese were all delicious and flavorful. My only minor critique was that the desserts, while tasty, were a bit too sweet for my taste. Additionally, I wish the collard greens had been totally vegetarian, but that's a personal preference. Overall, our experience at Paula Deen's Kitchen was outstanding, and we can't wait to come back and indulge in more Southern comfort food goodness!

I enjoyed having the family seated around the table and having conversations with a meal served “family style” it reminded me of the meals you had “ back in the day” when you gathered around the table for Sunday dinner~priceless! The atmosphere is very nice & I love the gift shop ~ there are so many things to choose from. The food was good, but not great, I loved the biscuits, the fried chicken, mac n’ cheese & coleslaw, they were the best out of our choices. The prices were reasonable.
