HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE #4

Thursday, October 10, 10AM -Tropical Storm Warning has been lifted for Broward County; however, we are still under a wind and small craft advisory.

Solid Waste (Garbage)

Garbage collection will be delayed on Thursday, October 10. Residents are advised to refrain from placing yard waste or bulky items at the curbside.

Pier and Beach
Pier: After a re-assessment of conditions, the pier will reopen to the public at 12 p.m. today.

Beach: Visitors are advised to swim at their own risk and remain vigilant about surf conditions. Please exercise caution. Lifeguards continue their roaming patrols.

City Operations
Citywide: Crews are currently inspecting and assessing streets and public areas. Efforts are ongoing to clean drains as part of on-going preventative maintenance
City Hall: Closed today, October 10, 2024. However, residents can still reach City staff for assistance via phone or email during regular operating hours. City Hall will reopen for in-person services on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that this is a modified schedule; regular operations will resume on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 7PM - The Dania Beach Pier will close effective immediately. Conditions will be reevaluated in the morning of Thursday, October 10, on whether it will reopen in the afternoon.

HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE #3

Tuesday, October 8, 2024, 5PM -Broward County is currently under a Tropical Storm Watch and a Flood Watch. A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm-force winds are possible in our area within the next 48 hours. The City of Dania Beach continues to actively assess and respond to weather impacts.

Bridges:

US Coast Guard has already started to close the east coast bridges starting at noon today. Broward County bridges are scheduled to start their closure procedures tonight between 11 p.m. - 1 a.m.

City Facility Operations:

  • Beach and Pier: If conditions permit, the pier and beach will remain open. Lifeguard stands have been moved off the beach and lifeguards are on roaming patrols. Beach patrons are reminded to follow the guidance of warning flags.
  • Dania Beach City Hall Parking Garage: Open to the public for personal use vehicles from Tuesday, October 8, 2024, 6 p.m., through Friday, October 11, 8 a.m., Parking is at your own risk. The City is not responsible for your vehicle or your personal property. Parking spaces are very limited. No parking in restricted spaces. No double parking. Vehicles that are not properly parked are subject to tow. No boats, trailers or commercial vehicles. Garage is located at 49 Park Ave E.
  • Dania Beach City Hall and Recreational Facilities: Closed on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10, 2024. During this period, residents can continue to contact City staff for assistance via phone or email during regular operating hours. City Hall will reopen for all in-person services (no appointment necessary) on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular operations will resume on Monday, October 14, 2024.
  • Recreational Programs and Activities: Canceled on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Solid Waste Services:

There are currently no changes to garbage pickup services, but residents should be prepared to secure or remove items if conditions worsen. Waste Management will complete scheduled collections if it is safe for drivers and crews. Weather changes could lead to service disruptions.

Bulk waste collection in Dania Beach is next week and residents are reminded not to place any bulk out on the curb no sooner than 24 hours prior to their collection date.

Community Shuttle:

Community shuttle services will not operate on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10, 2024. An impact assessment will determine if there are any changes to Friday’s bus schedule.

Event Updates:

Dania After Dark Oktoberfest event remains scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2024.

Tips for Residents

  • We urge all residents to take this opportunity to review their emergency plans. Stay informed, understand your risks, and ensure you are prepared.
  • Secure loose objects and limit outdoor activities as winds increase.
  • Avoid driving or walking through flooded streets and areas. Water can hide energized power and other hazards. Practice good hygiene if you come into contact with it. Just six inches of water can knock you over, and 12 inches can carry away a vehicle.
  • Document damages for insurance purposes by making lists and taking photos.

HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE #2

Monday, October 7, 2024, at 5 PM – The City of Dania Beach continues to monitor Hurricane Milton. Please note the following updates:

City Facility Operations

Out of an abundance of caution, Dania Beach City Hall and all recreational facilities will be closed for in-person services on Wednesday, October 9, and Thursday, October 10, 2024. During this period, all scheduled recreational programs and activities will be canceled. Residents may continue to reach City staff for assistance via phone or email from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m

In-person services at City Hall will be available on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM to provide assistance following the closures. Regular City Hall operations and business hours will resume on Monday, October 14, 2024.

Event/ Meeting Updates

  • The Special Magistrate Hearing scheduled for October 9, 2024, has been canceled due to the forecasted inclement weather. Any hearings that were set for this date will be tentatively rescheduled for October 29, 2024.
  • The Dania Beach Vendor Training session will be postponed. Further event information will be provided once available.
  • The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have decided to postpone the public meeting for the Stirling Corridor Assessment, originally scheduled for October 9, 2024, to October 24, 2024.

School Closures

Broward County Schools and District offices will also be closed on October 9 and 10, 2024. For more information, please visit the Broward Schools website.

Beach Safety

On October 8, 2024, lifeguard towers will be temporarily relocated into the parking lot in preparation for the storm. During this time, there will be lifeguards in towers with limited lifeguard presence on the beach. Beach visitors are to swim at their own risk and stay aware of surf conditions. Please exercise caution in the water.

HURRICANE MILTON UPDATE #1

Monday, October 7, 2024, at 12:30 PM – The City of Dania Beach has declared a state of emergency in response to Hurricane Milton. A flood watch is in effect through October 10, 2024, as significant rainfall is forecasted across South Florida, including Dania Beach. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will increase the risk of excessive rainfall and potential flooding as Hurricane Milton strengthens.

Forecasts predict 4 to 8 inches of rainfall across the area through Wednesday, October 9, with some localized areas potentially seeing over 10 inches. Currently, no changes have been made to the City’s municipal operations.

Executive Order 24-214

Governor Ron DeSantis has issued Executive Order 24-214 for 35 counties, including Broward County. Residents are advised to secure loose objects around their property and limit outdoor activities as strong winds are expected to begin on Wednesday evening.

City Operations Update

As Hurricane Milton approaches, the City of Dania Beach remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents. Our dedicated City staff will conduct rapid impact assessments of all parks and playgrounds to keep public amenities safe and accessible. The Public Services team is continuously monitoring conditions and stands ready to mobilize resources as needed.

Water Management Measures

The South Florida Water Management District has proactively lowered water levels in canals and other bodies of water in anticipation of the heavy rainfall associated with Hurricane Milton.

Solid Waste Services

There are no changes to solid waste services, including curbside garbage collection and bulk pickup, at this time. However, residents scheduled for bulk services from Tuesday, October 8, through Saturday, October 12, should note that bulk items may need to be removed from curbs if conditions worsen. Please avoid starting new landscaping projects, as tree limbs and debris could become hazardous during the storm.

Construction Sites

All construction sites should take the following precautions:

  • Secure or remove construction debris and materials to avoid safety hazards.
  • Store materials inside a protected structure or securely fasten them to prevent becoming airborne.
  • Lock down cranes and other heavy equipment to ensure stability and safety during the storm.
  • Remove commercial containers and portable toilets from construction sites or mechanically secure them.
  • Ensure piles of dirt, sand, and stone are positioned away from canals, right-of-way’s, and storm drains.

Taking these measures will help protect both the construction sites and the surrounding community from potential damage during the storm.

Community Shuttle

Temporary adjustments have been implemented to prioritize the safety of our passengers, drivers, and county vehicles. To assist our ridership in preparing for the storm, we will continue service to the following locations:

  • Oakwood Plaza (East and West)
  • Publix and Ideal (East route)
  • Publix (West route)

Due to road flooding affecting certain segments of the community shuttle routes, please review the temporary adjustment details below:

East Route:

  • Service from City Hall to Publix (Dania Beach) will operate as scheduled.
  • All stops located southeast of Publix are temporarily suspended.
  • The following locations will not be serviced: Walmart Sheridan, SE 11th Ter, SE 10th and 3rd, SE 5th and 3rd, and 3rd Ave and SE 2nd Ter.

West Route:

  • Service will operate as normal until reaching Publix on Griffin, where the shuttle will remain until the next scheduled departure.
  • The following locations will not be serviced: 40th, NW 54th, and Lucky Street.

Hurricane/Flood Safety Tips:

  • Stay out of flooded areas and avoid pumping water out during the storm.
  • Be cautious around floodwaters, as they may contain sewage.
  • The City does not pump water out of private properties or residences.
  • Document any damaged items for insurance purposes once the floodwaters have receded.
  • Private developments are encouraged to check storm drains and remove any debris to prevent flooding.
