There are numerous legendary items located Shadow of the Erdtree, including Weapons, Spirit Ashes, Armor, and an Incantation. We’ll tell you what they are and how to get them all!
This guide is up-to-date for Elden Ring Update 1.13
Unlike the base game, which had separate achievements for collecting all of the Legendary Weapons, Sorceries and Incantations, Talismans, and Spirit Ashes, there are no achievements for Shadow of the Erdtree. Still, the legendary items in the Realm of Shadow deserve the rarity given to them, as they are some of the best items in the game.
Legendary Weapons
There are 4-5 legendary weapons in Shadow of the Erdtree, depending on how you slice it. The Sword of Light and Darkness are distinct weapons, but they come from one that is decidedly not legendary.
Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword
The Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword is actually a Colossal Sword. It’s one of only two in the game that scales with Arcane but deals partial Magic damage instead of applying one of the status effects traditionally associated with Arcane.
Its Unique Skill: White Light Charge is basically a reskinned version of Midra’s thrusting attack that causes barbs to expand at the end of the stab. It should have been part of the Greatsword of Damnation as a Stance attack.
That said, it’s still a fantastic attack on its own and looks really cool. It pairs best with the Maternal Staff and Count Ymir’s Finger Sorceries.
You receive the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword and an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (+25) for igniting the furnace at the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past, located southwest of Moorth Ruins on Scadu Altus.
You must ride the final door up and use it as a bridge to reach the furnace. First, lower the final door that leads to the room with the two Golem Smiths, then drop down and use the lower lever to raise it back up. Run back onto the door before it starts rising as soon as you pull the lever.
Euporia
Euporia is a Legendary Twinblade that temporarily becomes more powerful after damaging living beings. You can unleash the power with its Unique Skill: Euporia Vortex, which spins the Twinblade like a baton and launches a beam if it’s powered up.
Euporia is actually in a temple in Belurat, but it’s only accessible via a secret route from Enir-Ilim. Check out our Enir-Ilim Guide for more details.
Swords of Darkness and Light, Sheathed in Stone
There are 3 versions of a single Straight Sword in the game called the Sword of Darkness, the Sword of Light, and the Stone-Sheathed Sword. They’re basically a riff on Excalibur and the Knights of the Round Table (Hold).
Across the Realm of Shadow, there are 3 altars. The first one you find contains the Stone-Sheathed Sword, which is as worthless as it sounds.
The other 2 altars then become the Altar of Darkness and the Altar of Light. The former allows you to raise the sword to the Dark while the latter raises it to the Light, giving you the Swords of Darkness and Light respectively.
Both of the swords deal half of their damage as Holy and have identical stats, along with similar, but extremely stylish and powerful Unique Skills called Darkness and Light.
Darkness produces a dark cloud around you that reduces the Holy Damage Negation of enemies it hits by 20% for 60s, basically the same thing that Rennala and Ranni’s Moons do, but for Holy damage.
Light grants a buff to you that boosts your Holy damage by 20% for 60s, which is similar to the effect granted by the Sacred Scorpion Charm.
Both effects can work together, but it takes 2 playthroughs to equip both weapons at the same time. They both have long animations in line with that of the Lunar Sorceries. It’s much easier to use the Sword of Light, but Darkness can affect a much wider area.
Three Sword Altar Locations
The 3 Altars are located at the Fog Rift Catacombs, the Ruins of Unte, and above what I’m dubbing the Miranda Flower “Tower of Power” at Rauh Ruins®.
Each altar does something different depending on where you draw the Stone-Sheathed Sword, so what might be the Altar of Light for me might be the Altar of Darkness for you.
Fog Rift Catacombs Altar
You’ll encounter the altar at the Fog Rift Catacombs at the beginning of the long hall with three segments of spike ceilings.
Go to the end where the death wizard is, then get close to the balcony and get the ceiling to come down and jump into the nook of OSHA violation (not sure if I can get the rights for that one).
Grab the loot in the chest, and then get on top of the ceiling and walk back across to the other end.
Miranda Flower Tower of Power®
The Miranda Flower Tower of Power® is located at the back of Rauh Ruins; it’s a pretty prominent landmark in the region. The ground level has a Giant Miranda Sprout that drops the Aspects of the Crucible: Bloom Incantation. Beware, there are FLYING Spider-Scorpions down there too!
You can only reach the upper level via an invisible floor, like the ones at the Heretical Rise on the Mountaintops of the Giants where you get the Founding Rain of Stars Sorcery.
You can use the nearby Spiritspring (horse jump tornado) to get right up to the bridge near the back exit to the domain of the (not) Scarlet Kindred of Rot.
Ruins of Unte
The Ruins of Unte are located on Scadu Altus, accessible only through a hidden area with the “Domain of Dragons” Painting in the Shadow Keep.
You’ll need to get the Furnace Golem to skedaddle by playing basketball using a Hefty Furnace Pot. Fire Pots probably work too, I haven’t tried. The recipe for Hefty Furnace Pots is contained within the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2], located at the Run-Down Traveler’s Rest, down by the Ellac Bridge on the Gravesite Plain.
Legendary Spirit Ashes
There are two Legendary Spirit Ashes in Shadow of the Erdtree, Taylew the Golem Smith and Divine Bird Warrior Ornis.
Taylew the Golem Smith Ashes
I haven’t personally tested Taylew the Golem Smith, but I hear he’s an extremely tanky Spirit Ash that gives even the Mimic Tear a run for its money. He costs 138 FP to summon.
You receive Taylew the Golem Smith’s Ashes and an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (+25) for igniting the furnace at Taylew’s Ruined Forge at Rauh Base, located below the bridge between the Shadow Keep and Rauh Ruins.
Divine Bird Warrior Ornis Ashes
Divine Bird Warrior Ornis allows you to summon a Divine Bird Warrior as a Spirit Ash. It costs 131 FP to summon.
You can loot the Divine Bird Warrior Ornis Spirit Ashes from a chest in a fancy building overlooking the Temple Town Ruins at Rauh Base,
It’s accessible from a Spiritspring (horse jump tornado) northeast of the town’s associated Site of Grace. First you use the Spiritspring to jump up to a higher ruined building that has some litter on it.
Then, get on the wall to jump over to the area with building.
Legendary Spells
There is a single legendary spell that you get out in the world, the Divine Beast Tornado Incantation.
Divine Beast Tornado
Divine Beast Tornado is an Incantation that summons a tornado and flings it at your target to deal Physical damage. You can charge it to make it deal more damage and knock enemies into the air. It can tick twice on larger enemies, provided they stay inside for the entire duration.
You receive the Divine Beast Tornado Incantation for defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion onstage at Rauh Ancient Ruins. This Dancing Lion is separate from the one you fight at Belurat, Tower Settlement. The nearest Site of Grace is Ancient Ruins, Grand Stairway, which is near the Giant Golem Archer.
Legendary Armor
All of the boss armor sets and other items you can purchase from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold are technically considered Legendary Items. This guide will only focus on the individual pieces you can find throughout the Shadow Realm.
Check out our dedicated guides about the armor sets and related equipment for each of the humanoid bosses:
- Divine Beast Warrior
- Rellana the Twin Moon Knight
- Messmer the Impaler
- Commander Gaius
- Young Lion Radahn
Divine Beast Head
The Divine Beast Head is one of the heaviest helmets in the game and offers comparable mitigative stats. This head piece also offers +4 Strength and Dexterity and boosts the damage dealt by Sorceries, Incantations, and Skills that contain the word “Storm” in their name or description by ~4%.
In exchange, you don’t get any Focus from equipping it and your Focus is reduced by 59. Your Crimson Flask healing is also reduced by 11%.
You can loot the Divine Beast Head at the Theatre of the Divine Beast after defeating it in Belurat, Tower Settlement.
Circlet of Light
The Circlet of Light grants +1 Intelligence, Faith, and Arcane and boosts the damage dealt by the Rings of Light Incantations by 10%.
You receive the Circlet of Light after defeating Consort Radahn, the final boss of the expansion, at the Gate of Divinity in Enir-Ilim.
St. Trina’s Blossom
St. Trina’s Blossom is a headpiece that boosts your max FP by ~6%, roughly equivalent to +4 Mind without diminishing returns. It looks pretty good with the Dancer Armor Set.
Return to the Garden of Deep Purple at the bottom of the Stone Coffin Fissure after defeating Consort Radahn and Miquella at the Gate of Divinity.
Gaius’ Greaves
Commander Gaius is the boar-mounted boss you fight behind the Shadow Keep. Unlike all of the other boss armor sets, you cannot purchase his pants from Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold. The pants don’t do anything special beyond explaining that Gaius is an Albinauric.
You can loot Gaius’ Greaves at the Albinauric’s Shack at Scadview in front of the Scadutree Chalice behind the Shadow Keep.
